Despite recent progress, only 40% of 3rd graders in Dallas County reach ‘on grade level' for literacy. Students who reach that benchmark are 4x more likely to graduate than peers who are less proficient readers. We have proven that high-quality, targeted intervention in the early grades can help students learn to read so they can read to learn, graduate from high school, and be prepared for whatever they choose next.

The primary purpose of this collaboration is to deliver a robust and holistic literacy intervention model. Each member organization provides one component of this shared model at a high-need site.

The program staff function as a single, cohesive unit to assess data, troubleshoot, communicate, and hold one another accountable.

Read Up is dedicated to improving reading outcomes for elementary students in North Texas with the vision that all students will read on grade level by third grade, creating a vital foundation for college and career readiness. Through a collective impact approach, Read Up creates opportunities for nonprofit organizations in the literacy ecosystem to learn, build capacity, and serve together in order to improve K-3 reading outcomes and scale impact.

The collective model includes: 
   • in-school tutoring with volunteers
   • after school and summer tutoring
   • parent workshops and at-home resources
   • teacher professional development
